“Well, it’s about time.”
That’s the reaction that, earlier this month Mobile Marketing Watch highlighted, in response to the news that mobile marketing and mobile advertising are getting a “high-profile placement” at this year’s Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona, Spain on March 2nd. The Mobile World Congress is “the world’s largest annual gathering of mobile and related C-Level executives” where anything and everything that happens in “mobile” can be found.
The International Advertising Bureau, Facebook and Nasdaq announced an official partnership with the Mobile World Congress earlier this month. And this year, the Mobile World Congress has designated for the first time ever, a full-day summit that will “tackle the most important questions in the mobile space” including mobile marketing.
Our own Lee Johnson says it perfectly; “mobile marketing, including text message marketing, loyalty and reward programs and digital offers are captivating both consumers and businesses alike. Businesses are able to capture specific consumer preferences and can drive desired behavior with specifically designed mobile marketing campaigns with positive ROIs. It’s the most personal marketing channel ever and appeals to both sides.”
“Mobile” is quickly becoming an effective and popular channel for content distribution. Buzzfeed’s Jonathan Perelman’s quote “content is king, but distribution is queen and she wears the pants” really sums the power behind mobile marketing. You can have the best content in the world, the best campaign, the best rewards, the best offers but if you don’t have an effective way of getting your content out there you’ll be stuck — and not only stuck — but left behind.
A lot of folks, including us, are excited to see mobile marketing and mobile advertising getting its proper spot at this year’s Mobile World Congress and we’re looking forward to the result.
